One tuckered pup. Had a visit from one of his favorite people this afternoon, took a little hop, dug in a snowbank for a buried chunk of bread, then came home to nap in front of a warm woodstove.

Baby hops
It’s been a week of baby hops for Boone as he navigates his way through life as a TriPawd.
We’re taking a daily afternoon hop to the corner closest to our home and back, with frequent stops to check out which dog has visited since our last outing. Today we went just a smidge further. Boone REALLY wanted to keep going but I know how much energy this takes so I bribed him with Yummy Chummies to turn around before he gotĀ tired.
Last night Boone really lit up when my hubby started to open a box. Boone’s unofficial title is our document destruction manager, and he feels that also includes packages received in the mail or on our doorstep. Here he is “inspecting” the latest package.

We noticed last night that Boone started showing signs of phantom limb pain (excessive licking of the floor where his leg used to be). I was hoping the pain/nerve meds would prevent this. It’s not horrible and I hope we can keep him comfortable with light exercise, brain games and warm compresses ’til it passes.
Otherwise, he’s doing great. I know it won’t be long before he begins demanding his meals as he used to instead of waiting the 10 minutes or so for it to rehydrate (he’s an Honest Kitchen/Columbia River Raw fed boy). He’s no longer waiting to be served his meals in bed, hopping his way out to the food stand and giving me the stink eye ’til his bowl is in place.
Tomorrow he gets a visit from one of his favorite people and I know it’s going to lift his spirits even more.
Boone sends his love for all of your support and encouragement.
Hoppin’ through day 8
It’s sunny and 30 degrees so Boone and I went for a little hop. He still pullsĀ like he has 4 legs!
Coming home was a little slower, but he made it. I did have our makeshift sling in case he needed a little help, but he didn’t.

Return of the propeller tail :-)
Boone has a way of making me smile š
Today’s smiles actually started last night, when he picked up a Nylabone and figured out how to brace it between his paw and a pillow so he could chew on it for a while.
And he slept through the night! Wahoo! I knew he was in a deep sleep when I heard moose moving through the yard around 1AM but he didn’t. I did hearĀ him making his routine house patrolĀ at 3:30 this morning so I got up and encouraged him back into our room and onto his makeshift bolsterĀ bed where he slept ’til breakfast. He still seems to prefer the floor or the thinner bed (which we surrounded on two sides with pillows) over the orthopedic bed.
This morning he cleaned his breakfast bowl, hopped his way outside, then came back in for his morning nap (which technically extends the entire day).
But he put the biggest smile on my face when his propeller tail wag returned! I was just about in happy tears. It’s been MIA for some time.
He also became my unofficial office assistant again today. Here he is making sure there are no documents to be shredded (a job he takes very seriously, but you wouldn’t know it in this pic).
Life in TriPawd Boone’s world is coming together š
A Quiet Day 5
Today is Boone’s 5th day as a TriPawd and he spent most of it sleeping.
We were blessed with a beautiful, sunny day so I opened the blinds and let Boone soak up some winter rays.
His appetite was healthy today, eating nearly a regular amount of breakfast and dinner. He’s figured out the stairs to go to his yard and finally found his balance to potty šš»
And after dinner tonight, he found his favorite spot again, right next to dad for some scratches and belly rubs.
His amp area is much less red and angry-looking today. He’s still not keen on the cold compresses. Ā But he falls asleep with the warm compresses.
Hoping for a restful night for all of us and am looking forward to what tomorrow brings!
