One Year an Angel

It’s hard to fathom that one year ago you earned your wings, Boone.

You were our “Bad Dog Bundle,” always making us laugh with all of your antics. That tail of yours never stopped wagging and you had the most infectious (and mischievous) smile. It was hard to have a bad day with you around.

You were my walking buddy, couch cuddler and lifter of spirits.

I still miss you terribly. But I know you’ve been restored to health, and you found Miss Lexi waiting for you at the Bridge.

Just two short weeks after you passed, you sent the craziest little earthly sidekick to remind us that it’s ok for life to go on. It’s OK if we still smile and laugh – especially when he pulls stunts like you did. I swore up and down we wouldn’t keep him; it was too soon, he was “too small” for my liking and gosh was he a screamer!

Tuck LOVES riding with the sunroof open!

He’s a little guy compared to you, easily half your size. But what he lacks in size he makes up for in personality. There are days when I’m certain the two of you have a conversation that goes something like this:

Boone: “Hey, Tuck. I bet you can’t top…”

Tuck: “Hold my beer…”

Uh, Tuck…what are you doing??

Now we’re running agility, something I’ve never done before. You should see him fly! For a little guy he’s sure got fast legs. I have a heck of a time keeping up with him (when I can, that is). But he’s smart. He catches on quickly and loves to please.

I’m sure you told him about our walks and that at 3 o’clock every afternoon, he should demand that I leave my desk and leash up to check out the neighborhood. Which we do.

This past summer, butterflies kept us company on our walks. You always loved chasing butterflies, Boone.

And he’s won over the heart of your favorite little girl in the neighborhood. I wasn’t sure how he would be, but you must have told him what a sweet girl she is and that he should greet her with the biggest tail wag. He doesn’t tower over her quite like you did – but he loves her just the same.

I better wrap this up. My keyboard is getting wet…

I miss you, Boone.

‘Til we meet again.

Our sweet & crazy Boone was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in December 2016, and amputation was performed January 24, 2017. Five weeks post-amp a mass in his chest and lung mets were discovered. He left us way too soon on March 14, 2017...tail wagging in the peaceful sunshine of our living room. His big heart and personality is missed.

  1. (((Hugs)))) the first year is one of the hardest … you have to go through all the “firsts” again. First holiday, first spring, first, fall…. you get my point. BUT you did it! All with Boone watching over you as your angel.

I, too, have a little sidekick that Angel Shelby sent to me. And boy does she challenge me and bring me smiles and joy… all the while I am sure Shelby is saying “told ya so”.

Your heart will continue to heal … Boone will always be with all of us. His spirit lives forever!

I love that last photo of you both at Butte. Such love and bonding!

    XOXO

    1. Thank you, Alison. It’s been a challenging 12 months to say the least. But as you said, I know Boone continues to watch over us and I’m certain he plants daily ideas into Tuck’s head about what he should try next 😉

Hugs to you and little Jasper!

    1. Thank you 🙂 Appropriate that your pups send gentle wooos since Boone’s earthly sidekick is likely a little sled dog…and he LOVES to talk!

  2. What a beautiful tribute on Boone’s one year “angelversary.” He left his mark everywhere he went and will never be forgotten. I’m thankful Tuck came into your home and heart; Boone chose the perfect earthly sidekick. He knew just what you needed.
    Hugs to you today,
    Gen (Jason and Abby 🐾🐶💕too)

    1. Boone really did leave his mark, didn’t he? I’m grateful for your friendship – for remembering today was going to be a challenging one for me – and for the beautiful flowers 🙂

And grateful that you and Miss Abby gave crazy Tuck a second chance after a not-so-stellar first encounter last year!

  3. One year already. It doesn’t seem possible. A lot of firsts happened during that year. Happy Angelversary.

I know Boone is watching over you and still sending his signs.

    xoxoxo

  4. That first picture of Boone laying on that beautiful “field of flowers” placed so perfectly in the quiot around him…….I INSTANTLY had a “vision” of Boone laying in a beautiful field of flowers soaking up the sun at the Bridge! I really did!

I k ow it’s been a hard year and the sadness still lurks in the background waiting to attack when you least expect it. Fortunately you jave thousands of wonderful happy memories that you and Boone shared to help put a smile on your face. I know seeing butterflies warms your heart. And you have to laugh anytime to see a MOOSE….the same Moose that Boone tried to stare down from his window!!

I’m sooooo glad Boone picked Tuck for you! 🙂 And it does not surprise me at all that Tuck came ro you pre-,probrammed” by Boone to mimic lots of Boone’s quirks”! You jad me L.AO at the conversation Boone and Tuck jave about “topping this or that”!

I’m sooooo glad you came back and let us continue to celebrate precious Boone with us, as well as his “crazy earthly sidekick! 🙂 And these pictures….looooove these pictures!! I do hope you frame the one of you and Tuck together with the beautiful background embracing you both.

A d then we have adoravle Tuck with his ball telling you it’s three o’clock….ADORABLE!

Lots and lots of love always!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

    PS….You ought to get a tatoo that says 3:00 with a heart surrounding it…or a paw…or a butterfly 🙂

    1. You always know just what to say, Sally. Thank you. I never thought of Tuck being “pre-programmed” but it makes total sense! He’s definitely hard-wired with some bad-dogness in him…and we love him even more for that.

      We have more in store…

On a waiting list for a Rotty baby – hopefully this year…

…and we may be fostering an 11-year old Rotty (yes 11!) that was surrendered to the shelter. Poor old guy was surrendered basically because he is old and has hip and cruciate issues. I would give anything for my big dogs to make it to that age…

  5. Dear Boone – Mr. Bad to the Bone – not. I know this blog title is tongue in cheek.

This is a lovely tribute and memorial marking one year of missing your beautiful boy. And goodness, did he do well sending you a mischievous following act. Tuck is a little cutie and he clearly listens to all the advice his big angel brother sends.

Let us know if you end up fostering that boy who sounds like he could really use your love. I’m with you – when you’d give anything for more time, it is impossible to understand someone who’d give up a golden oldie.

    1. Thanks for reading and following Boone’s journey, Lisa. He did choose the perfect earthly sidekick didn’t he?

And yes, I never understand why anyone would take their senior to a shelter. Thankfully I have a friend with connections at the shelter so they always call her when an at-risk Rotty ends up there. He’s getting treatment for kennel cough, and is finally getting the relief he needs from his age related aches and pains.

I’ll be sure to post if he ends up coming to stay with us!

  6. So sorry for your loss. My cookie was recently diagnosed and is having her amputation Friday. I am nervous but to get extra time makes it so worth it. God blesd

  7. :0). so sweet. I can’t believe it’s been a year since Boone left you. So glad he sent you Tuck. You – and all of us – deserve to smile and love and live again after losing our pups. Thank you for sharing that fact with us!

  8. Some days it feels like just yesterday Boone left us and others it feels like a lifetime. He definitely had a plan when he sent Tuck our way. 💕

  9. Jeanette,
Thank you for sharing Boone’s angelversary with us all. These firsts are never easy but in time, the pain fades and all we remember are the good times. We can tell that Tuck is doing a good job helping you to laugh more and smile when you think of his heavenly sidekick.

It’s an honor to have you as part of this community. Never forget that Boone’s story will always be here to give hope, laughter and lightness to those who are so new to the journey. Even as an angel dog, he keeps making us laugh and Be More Dog.

We send many, many hugs your way.

    1. This community is so amazing. You were all there for us while we went through Boone’s short time as a TriPawd and you continue to remind me that there’s still love in this world.

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart 💜

  10. And Boone is sending you a baby Rottie too!!! And you are fostering a senior Rottie? That Boone is absolutely determined to continue his legacy of love by sending you these sweet Souls who need to know what love feels like.

And for thst 11 yr Rottie to be “given away” because of old age just breaks my heart. Can’t imagine that his life has been a very happy one….UNTIL NOW!

    You are a Saint 🙂

    1. Boone wants to make sure our hearts are full!

The senior Rottie’s name is Chaos, and he should be with us in about 10 days. He has some medical treatments in Anchorage and is recovering from kennel cough. His pictures look so sweet…I just can’t imagine leaving him at a shelter…

I’ll share an update once he’s here 😊.
